- Sexual and reproductive health
- HIV prevention and awareness
- Gender-based violence prevention
- Community health
- Water, sanitation, and hygiene
- Livelihood development
- Women's empowerment
- Youth empowerment
- Climate resilience
- Environmental protection
- Biodiversity conservation
RAHI's programmes are designed to improve the wellbeing and resilience of communities while strengthening their capacity to develop sustainable solutions to local challenges.
Where We Work
RAHI's work is primarily focused on underserved communities in and around the Lake Victoria islands of Uganda, with particular emphasis on Bussi Island and surrounding island communities in Wakiso District.
The organisation works with communities whose geographical isolation can create significant barriers to healthcare, emergency referral, education, livelihood opportunities, and other essential services.
Our Main Programme Areas
6.1 Maternal, Newborn and Child Health
RAHI works to improve access to and utilisation of essential maternal, newborn, and child health services. Activities include:
- Community health education
- Promotion of antenatal and postnatal care
- Maternal and newborn health awareness
- Child health promotion
- Community outreach and referral support
- Strengthening links between communities and health facilities
6.2 Adolescent and Sexual and Reproductive Health
RAHI supports adolescents and young people with appropriate health information and community-based support, including:
- Sexual and reproductive health education
- Adolescent health awareness
- HIV prevention education
- Community mobilisation
- Support for vulnerable adolescent mothers
6.3 HIV Prevention and Community Health
RAHI supports community-level health promotion and prevention activities aimed at increasing awareness, improving health-seeking behaviour, and strengthening access to appropriate services.
6.4 Emergency Referral and Medical Transport
The geographical isolation of island communities can make access to emergency healthcare particularly difficult. RAHI therefore supports community emergency referral systems designed to reduce delays in accessing appropriate medical care.
6.5 Livelihoods and Women's Economic Empowerment
RAHI recognises that health and economic wellbeing are closely connected. The organisation supports vulnerable households, women, and young people through sustainable livelihood and skills development initiatives, which may include:
- Aquaculture and fish farming
- Mushroom cultivation
- Juncao-based livelihood activities
- Tailoring and soap making
- Skills development and entrepreneurship
- Income-generating activities
The purpose of these activities is to strengthen household resilience and economic independence rather than to generate private profit for RAHI.

RAHI works to address the relationship between environmental degradation, climate change, livelihoods, and community wellbeing. Activities include:
- Environmental education
- Climate resilience activities
